A Narrow Gauge Album of Watercolours.

The remarkable rise of the railway preservation movement spawned a new kind of railway labourer, that of the volunteer. This book is a personal account by renowned railway artist, Eric Leslie, who began his working life as an apprentice carpenter with BR at Woodburn Workshops in Sheffield. It covers over 40 years of his involvement in narrow gauge - from early days helping lay track and repairing carriages for the Festiniog to more recent work illustrating the much-loved cards and posters for the Lynton and Barnstaple line.

Fuelled by copious amounts of tea, lots of chips and quite a few belly laughs with his characterful cohorts, Eric has enjoyed giving his time and talents to help get trains on rails and bums on seats. These charming stories, featuring 11 of Britain's finest narrow gauge railways - and one American interloper - are all illustrated with Eric's evocative watercolours. In fact, the paintings themselves are an amazing achievement given that many were completed after Eric suffered a major stroke in 2008 when he lost the use of his dominant left hand. See if you can tell the difference between them...
