Dychwelodd tad Richard Bernard adref ar ddiwedd yr Ail Ryfel Byd, a ganwyd ei fab (yr awdur) yn 1946. Yn ystod plentyndod yr awdur, symudodd ei dad o swydd i swydd cyn i'r teulu gyrraedd Eryri yn 1957. Cafodd y bachgen ifanc ei dderbyn yn gynnes gan Gymry Beddgelert, a chyfrifai ef hwy yn aelodau o'i deulu estynedig. At the end of the Second World War, Richard Bernard's father, a British soldier was demobbed. 'Bomadier Bernard' was home at last. In 1946, unsurprisingly, the author was born. One of the infamous 'baby boomers'. During his early life, the author's father jumped jobs many times until in 1957 they arrived in Snowdonia. The Welsh people of Beddgelert adopted him and became his extended family.
