Built in the 1920s as the ultimate model railway for one man, it carried hordes of holiday makers as well as local residents until World War II. The Army then found it useful for the conveyance of troops, and for other purposes illustrated herein. It was also used in the creation of sound mirrors, precursors of radar. After threats of closure, it survived to continue to give pleasure to tourists and to host visiting locomotives at the amazing annual Galas.
